Lord Expands Line Of High Performance Coatings
Not long ago, Lord Corporation introduced four high performance coatings to the rubber industry, HPC-5B, HPC-5C, HPC-6B, and HPC-6C. These products, available with black pigmentation (those with the B suffix) or in a clear form (those with the C suffix), are elastomeric coatings designed to crosslink at room temperature. These are designed to improve the resistance of elastomers such as natural rubber, polybutadiene, and SBR to ozone and to hydrocarbon oils and fuels. They bond well to either polar or non-polar elastomer substrates, and they exhibit excellent strength and fatigue resistance. They can also be used to make rubber parts heat reflective or simply to improve the cosmetic appearance of molded rubber parts.
Recently Lord introduced a new high performance coating, HPC-3. It is also available in either black or clear form. HPC-3 is a fluorocarbon coating and has been shown to be useful in protecting a variety of rubber substrates from degradation by petroleum fluids. HPC-3 is designed to be applied over a primer coat of HPC-5. It is recommended for coating of natural rubber, butyl rubber, polychloroprene, and polybutadiene to improve resistance to petroleum oils.
